My wife, Debora, is pregnant again. It's wonderful news and it looks like it's lifted her spirits quite a bit. She had a miscarraige last fall that she had a hard time with and Feb 6-12 was the forcasted due date so she was beginning to feel down again. So the Lord was very gracious by giving us this news this weekend. Any small prayers for the Lord to sustain her through the due date period would be nice as well as that this pregnancy goes to term and we might finally have our first child this October.

If the child takes after his (or her) daddy, I expect we will see the first posts on the Doctrines of Grace sometime before Christmas. Ron, you and your wife certainly have my prayers! God bless and keep you both, protect and care for your wife and child during her pregnancy, give her an uneventful birth, and present you both with a child of the covenant. Matthew (soulfyre)

If the child takes after his (or her) daddy, I expect we will see the first posts on the Doctrines of Grace sometime before Christmas. Maybe, maybe not. I'm not particularly persuasive as my wife is yet to be convinced. The pastor preached on it yesterday (very well, I could see no biblical way out of his presentation on the "book of life" passages in Revelation) and it was written off as Calvinist propaganda... So it depends upon who the child is listening to. And since children seem to take to their mothers more than their fathers I probably have no hope. Thank you everyone! ;D

Thanks. We both need it. Paranoia about losing this baby as well is at medium now. I get worried about everything. Very hard to rest in Christ. I'm a problem solver (it's what I do for a living as a network admin) and this whole pregnancy thing is hard for a personality like me to handle. I had no control over whether or not life would come about. I have no control over whether that life continues and remains healthy. I have no control over where she is and what people around her are doing (specifically the awful drivers here in Portland). She gets worried about losing this one as well and prayer and petition to God is the only thing I can do with her to help. Sometimes you just want to do more, but you're not God... I've always understood during my Christian walk that I wasn't really "in control" of life around me. This was one of my greatest delusions as an unbeliever. I had been told I was in control of my own destiny and I believed it. Delusion from start to finish. But sometimes things in life bring our finite and limited nature to the forefront more pointedly. For a husband who wants the best for his wife this is a time when the fact that you don't control every circumstance surrounding her is really in your face. Resting in Christ is sometimes easier than others. Yours In Christ, Ron

I think I understand how you feel Ron. For me, I had one shot at having a child and I pretty much knew it. Those months were so scary, yet so wonderful. Enjoy this time as much as you can, because before long, you'll have a nine-year-old like I do! Yikes, and mine will be 18. Oh dear... Knowing God was in control was easy for me, it was the believing that was hard. Meanwhile you are all in my prayers. May the Lord Bless and Keep You, Melinda

My brother, I haven't been married, so I can't know the worry you and your wife must feel, but we have all felt helpless before God. I pray that God, who delights to give us every good thing, will bless and protect you both, caring for the life and health of both mother and child (and for your sanity as a father-to-be). I pray that He will send His angels to protech you, and that the Holy Spirit will comfort you. All of our prayers are with you. In the name of our Saviour and Lord, our King and High Priest, our Lover and Holy Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, Matthew (soulfyre)

Thank you for asking Melinda. She is doing fine so far. Had another appointment today and she was pretty worried. Every time she goes in she starts getting nervous a couple of days beforehand because of last years experience. I sat down and prayed holding her this morning before she left, but of course she still had some anxiety. Living by faith is sometimes difficult when you want something so much but have no real ability to affect. The womb is God's domain no doubt about it...
Yours In Christ, Ron

Going to the doctor's today. They want to do an amnio because of high levels of some protein that causes spinal bifida and other things. It only means increased risk (1 in 230 I think they said), but at her age the increased risk was already much higher than a 20 year old being pregnant for example. Please pray that all goes well and especially that my wife is able to find peace and comfort in the Lord.
Yours In Christ, Ron

He is indeed a boy. Fortunately the increased levels aren't due to any neural tube defects that they could see, so they opted not to do an amnio on her. But the baby isn't as big as they were expecting. He's about a week smaller. They now think that the placenta has not attached properly and that the baby isn't getting quite the nutrients he needs to grow at the normal rate. So my wife is supposed to take it very easy for the next three weeks and then return for another ultrasound. They'll then be able to confirm whether this is the case and if it is then she'll be on bed rest. They've assigned a "problem pregnancy" specialist to her case and he's pretty concerned, but says that if we can get the baby to come close to full term everything should be okay. This condition can result in premature birth which is why my wife would have to be on bedrest. Not the greatest news, and it was pretty stressful as the doctor would order new measurements of specific things and checking other stuff. It was about 90 minutes of ultrasound activity. My wife was a real trooper, though, and taking everything okay so far. On a side note, their specialist is almost assuredly spiritually blind. As we asked questions he made the statement that the placenta has many redundant systems "as one would expect from such a long evolution". He then talked about how incredibly the baby uses other highly complex mechanisms to get the nutrients he needs even with a problem like this. It was amazing! And it was equally amazing to hear him describe such wonderful mechanisms that our Creator has specially designed to bring us into existance and then claim it's all come about by chance! Scientists listen to space looking for one sound that has the marks of intelligence, but they are blind to all of the things around them that scream out testimony of our Father in Heaven. Truly amazing, but he could use prayer as well. I would prefer a Christian working with my wife (and at this point a deist would even by okay), but we don't always get those kinds of choices. Yours In Christ, Ron

Ron,
Though all may not be perfect, it could be much worse, as I'm sure you know. I praise God for good part of the news (no neural defects) and pray that everything else will work out.
It truly is amazing that a doctor who works with the miracle of creation every day fails to recognize the obvious. Even if it were evolution or chance, it would still be a miracle. Perhaps this is simply his way of dealing with the cases that don't make it; even so, I will pray for him as well.
By the way, how much longer does she have?
Melinda
