There is an ad that shows up that claims "Tithing is Un-Scriptural"I haven't had time to read it, but I find it disturbing. Yours in Christ, Melinda

It is the the third sentence in the beginning paragraph that concerns me:
New Testament Christian Church? Does that mean they throw out the rest of the Bible? The Law may have been done away with, but it is still necessary part of our faith.
It is truly disturbing.
1Co 9:14 tells us that whoever the Lord has put in place to preach the Gospel, shall be able ot live off of it. Yes, the people should rely solely on God to provide, but who is to say that God's provision must come down from the Heavens, and not from the gentleman in the third pew to the right? How must a Church then sustain itself?
I went on to read some of L. Ray Smith's work...yikes. He expects people to live over a thousand years so that their sins can be forgiven in the age to come after the coming age.
I am not sure where he got his teaching, or if he got any, but I should hope that there are not many places teaching such a thing.
Be blessed, Alejandro

Hard to take serious. Paul specifically endorses compensating your pastors for their work in his epistles while he points out that he never took advantage of this opportunity. And I once heard a statement like this that makes so much sense to me that I can't help but recall it to mind every time this comes up: "If the Jews were required to give 10% by law, what then should we give who have been saved by free grace?". I personally consider tithing 10% insignificant compared to the riches he has freely given me in this life.
Yours In Christ, Ron

I'm with y'all, especially about 10% compared to the riches/gifts He has given me in this life.
I am equally disturbed that this message is advertised on our site. I'll have to see if there is anything we can do about it.

Yours In Christ, Ron One thing I admire about my former Pastors, is a sermon that was read on tithing. He said that he would rather live on the 10% and give God the 90%. This coming from the mouth of someone who seemed to be very interested in prosperity teachings. A direct quote from Mr. SMith's website: bible-truths.com/email17.htm#confessBe blessed, Alejandro

I've tried to do the ad-free thing several times in the last month both here and on my postmill board. It still won't work. Last word I saw on the support forums said that they were working on a patch for it, but it wasn't done yet. Evidently the upgrade broke the code for the ad-free stuff. I'm nothing short of astonished that they badly broke their income stream in an upgrade and didn't catch it in testing!
I agree, some of the "ads" are quite disturbing...

I have long been seeking for an option that would allow us to screen and even choose our advertisers (Google's AdSense is really not very effective...besides, in the case of ezboard's forum, ezboard is the customer of Google, not the individual forum). But I also have not found a way in which, if we determine to go ad-free, we can still develop advertisers whom we may wish to feature on our site to assist in the cost of our ad-free status. I will continue to study this further, as well as a way to effectively develop our forum to encourage broader participation and attract new and active subscribers. It is difficult for a small group of administrators with limited time to accomplish this. I am looking for a solution to this problem. In Christ alone, Matthew (soulfyre)

Yeah, the ads are irritating. I've paid a few times just because they're so awful. I'm thinking I may kill the board because I'm not going to pay to keep objectionable content off my board. I'll pay for extra services, which no advertising is, but not just to keep the heretics off my site...
