Well, I don't think God is nothing...and I don't think he is white...is this suppose to be something profound?

sorry all. i started this post last night and then had something come up ... and after accidentally hitting the [enter] key - I didn't have time to get back to it. I still don't really have time to develop the post - so for now I'll just ask if anyone has read the book "Wild at Heart" by John Eldridge. Anyone? Thoughts?

I haven't yet, but I am already intrigued by the title. I read the front flap, and found his premise fascinating. I hope to get his book to see how he supports his premise, although it would seem to go along with how C. S. Lewis pictured Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia as "not a tame lion." Perhaps, although many say that God does not have gender, there is a certain sense in which God defines gender, and this "wildness" may indeed be at the heart of what is called "masculinity." God bless and keep you and yours, Matthew (soulfyre)

I have decided to suggest that we all read Wild at Heart (some, of course, may have a head start on this), and discuss it in Men Of God. My initial perusal of the book leads me to believe that the author puts forward an important premise that speaks uniquely to the concept of masculinity that seems woefully lacking our our "politically correct" culture of "niceness." In the same manner, our culture would seem to be far more comfortable with a "gentle Jesus, meek and mild", rather than the Jesus who stilled the raging storm and overthrew the tables of the money changers. What do you think? Matthew (soulfyre)

CAUTION!
While I have read this book, and was interested in discussing it - it is a book that I would have also posted in the "Books to be Cautious of" thread.
The book is interesting in some parts, and does make some valid observations (IMO).
Having said that, I feel that Eldridge also has an unorthodox view of God. He has often been 'accused' of being an open theist - which he denies being. Nevertheless, that theology permeates this book and leads him to certain conclusions about manhood.
Can a right view of Godly manhood stem from an unorthodox view of God? Maybe, but not likely.
Read this book if you like - it will make for good discussion - but please think critically (in a good way) as you do.

Thank you for the caveat. I will keep this in mind as I read the book. God bless and keep you, brother, Matthew (soulfyre)
